WRONG CHEMISTRY on MEOPLES MAGAZINE
The group / We are just regular gamers
“We” is yours truly, going by the nickname of Kobold, my lovely wife and all our friends that enjoy gaming with us… or at least play with us, if they don¢t enjoy it, they never mentioned.
You most likely wouldn¢t call us hardcore gamers. As much as we want to be, we are having trouble devoting enough time. We haven¢t played the same game hundreds of times and, at least to my knowledge, none of us has ever drawn up mathematic proof why one strategy will always beat another in a game. (Not that there¢s anything wrong with it, it¢s just not what makes a game fun to us.) But when we meet, you can depend on at least one game being played, usually more. You might call us casual but enthusiastic.
We all share a love for games. Board games is what we all play together, but we are all into other kinds as well, be it computer games, sports , role playing games , you name it, someone probably plays it. Almost any game that fits the table is welcome: card games, board games, European games, American games, games with a strong theme or abstract strategy games.
Like most gamers, we are hungry for the new. With every game that we add to our collections, we hope to find something that people will ask to play again and again. Sometimes, that is what happens. Sometimes, the game will be banished to the bottom of the stack after the first evening. The difference is hard to tell from looking at the box.
That¢s why we started this website, to help fellow gamers avoid our mistakes and share our successes. Maybe we can show you some games that you will enjoy, or at least can warn you away from games that you know you won¢t. And if you want to share your opinions, leave a comment. We promise no one there bites unless specifically requested.
The Author(s)
For the moment, the person writing for you is mostly me, although I do hope some of the others will find the courage and the time to join me. My name is Kai, but friends tend to start calling me Kobold after some time. Given my built, that is surprising, but I won¢t complain. Just please, for the love of Eris and the Flying Spaghetti Monster, don¢t think of Dungeons & Dragons or World of Warcraft kobolds. You did? Damn.
I¢m 32 years old, and was literally raised with board games. My earliest childhood memories involve playing games with my parents. I¢m German, so this is not so unusual. I still live in Germany and spend a lot of my waking time developing computer programs, mostly for money, sometimes for fun. That may go some way to explaining why I can actually have fun playing Robo Rally. As mentioned in the group section, gaming is a big part of my life, and when I¢m not working on arcane formulae to change the patterns of light or playing board games, I spend alot of time playing computer games, trying to overcome my World of Warcraft addiction and reading just about everything I can get my hands on with an emphasis on science fiction, fantasy and many kinds of non-fiction. I am also infamous for reading way too many online comics.
Board games have made me many friends so far, and board games gave me the chance to meet the lovely Sizinha that now redecorates our apartment with an alarming frequency (well, once so far, but i was alarmed), and so I guess I¢ll keep playing.
