Happy New Year, we wish this year be better for each one of you, for your families and the people you love.
2013 was a good year for us and we worked hard on our games but also learned new things in order to become better. I wanted to let you know few things about 12 Realms, our work and our preparations. We always hear what people say about our games, the quality, the rules, everything and we always look for the gold line to create a perfect result. I wanted first to present some changes we prepared for the game and for the next four realms which are under development:
1. Components Quality: We focused on 2 specific things: Paper Quality will be better meaning thicker box in order to avoid any damages during transportation, better cards and that's because we changed factory. We could never keep up with the other factory. There will be also tray to protect the minis. Previously we could not do it for financial reasons. In fact we had to deal with some extra costs during the production, but it's ok, we did it. The matter of the quality and the tray concerns the reprint of the first edition and the text 4 Realms we prepare, Ancestors' Legacy. We have seen samples from the new factory and we believe they will make a good work.
2. Minis: We worked with the other factory making more tests. We will change the material into ABS so the Minis can be a little harder and glued to their bases either are painted or unpainted in order to please all the people. In combination with the tray the minis will be well protected. Beside we have found better sculptors for the new version who will give us even better results.
3. For the reprint of the game, the rules will be combined with the FAQ and regarding the new realms we prepare scenarios, minis and variants but we will be very careful to avoid any kind of mistakes and cover as many questions as possible inside the new rules. We want this game reach a level and be a challenge even for the people who are more gamers. And why I say that: The current version is not unbalanced. Here is how we built the game: We have total 8 heroes, heroes which are easy and give you bonus like Gold so you can buy many cards as you wish and we did that cause kids play the game too and is not good to lose from the first time but we also have heroes who just have their talents and you must fight hard in order to buy cards. The players can be max 6 and you always have + 2 heroes. The heroes carry pretty much the same talents as from the pnp version (with few changes) and we did it like that in order to play with everyone and see what fits you better depending the game you play.
Also at this point you see how important is to buy cards from the Town in order to become stronger. I want to bring to attention a couple of important things and the fact that the game is not always easy and it cannot work with each realm at the same level. of course there are Invaders who give you Gold and others not, yes because each Realm must be different. What is the point to play a game where all the realms are the same so the characters? The point is to have a variety of choices and create the game you like. Example: In fairy forest if you play some Invaders give you Gold, so here you are. You can collect Gold and buy cards. This does not happen to Cherry Blossom and not because is the game is unbalanced but because each Realm must have its way to work.
Playing time: The playing time we have set cannot represent a game with 2 player or a game with 7 players, that's impossible. Is the average time for a normal game. You cannot increase at max the number of the players + use all the variants and at the same time require the playing time remain the same. However I understand that not all people are the same, some want the game to be hard and fast, or hard and long and so on. There are different types of gamers. This is something we work for the new realms, the scenarios, variants and how each one can be applied to each Realm. The only reason we did not write examples on how you should play the game exactly regarding the difficulty level (we have some modes inside but written in few words) is not that we did not want to spend few more cents for a couple pages of rules (i have heard that) either cause we forgot it. We thought that it would be better to leave you discover the game by yourself playing all the possible combinations and find what you really want. I have received messages from people who agree with that and other who do not agree. So from now on we plan to include such suggestions in the rulebook but without killing the mystery and the feeling of the game. This way we will cover the most people.
4. Shipping: For US, Canada and countries like Brazil, Peru etc shipping will take place from US, so the fees will be ok. For EU countries we will ship from Europe and for Asia and Australia we will ship from China. A complex system for us but it will keep the ship fees in normal prices + we solve the tax issues in some countries.
There are few more things I wanted to mention but I forgot them to be honest. These are the most basic points and important and here is where we focus in order to become better. The next campaign for the game will be launched at the end of spring. If something changes we will announce it. We will offer again painted sets in normal prices of course.
